Cold saw blade is a commonly used tool for metal cutting and processing. During use, due to factors such as friction and wear, its saw teeth are easily blunted, resulting in a decrease in cutting effect. Therefore, regular maintenance and upkeep of cold saw blades are particularly crucial. Among them, the grinding of cold saw blades is a very important operation. This article will provide a detailed introduction to the process of grinding cold saw blades, the types of grinding wheels required, and precautions to be taken.
1. Selection of grinding wheel blades
Grinding wheel is an essential tool for cold saw blade grinding, and its selection should be based on the material of the cold saw blade and the shape of the saw teeth. Normally, for hard cold saw blades, corundum grinding wheels can be chosen, while for soft cold saw blades, low-carbon steel grinding wheels can be chosen. In addition, the particle size of the grinding wheel also needs to be selected according to the needs of grinding. Generally, coarse grinding wheel is used for initial dressing, and then fine grinding wheel is used for polishing to achieve better grinding effect.
2. Grinding process
(1) Clean the cold saw blade
Before carrying out cold saw blade grinding, the surface needs to be cleaned first to remove rust and other dirt. At the same time, in order to ensure the grinding effect, it is necessary to smooth the surface of the cold saw blade for the processing of the grinding wheel.
(2) Grinding wheel grinding
Install the selected grinding wheel on the grinding machine and lightly tap twice with a hammer to check for stability. Then, fix the cold saw blade on the grinding table, being careful not to pinch the saw teeth. Turn on the grinding machine and start the grinding work.
When grinding, it is necessary to ensure that the contact area between the cold saw blade and the grinding wheel is as large as possible to avoid uneven grinding. At the same time, the depth of grinding should be controlled, and only about one-third of the saw teeth should be ground off each time to prevent excessive wear and affect the service life of the cold saw blade.
(3) Dealing with blunt serrations
Some cold saw blades may have dull serrations, which require the use of a file for processing. Place the file vertically on the serrations, shake slightly, and wait for the sharp serrations to appear before gently trimming with the file.
3. Precautions
(1) When using grinding wheels, they should be cleaned first to prevent residual iron filings and other debris from affecting the grinding effect.
(2) When grinding a cold saw blade, it should be ensured that the surface area of the cold saw blade in contact with the grinding wheel is maximized.
(3) In order to extend the service life of the cold saw blade, attention should be paid to controlling the amount of grinding. Excessive grinding depth can cause sawtooth deformation and damage, seriously affecting normal use.
(4) The trimming of blunt serrations should be done with care to prevent damage to the serrated surface.
(5) After grinding the cold saw blade, it is necessary to clean it again with a cleaning agent to remove the residual sand particles on the saw teeth.
